Well, getting a real estate sale’s / broker’s license is very easy but staying in the real estate profession is not as easy as someone may think. Most real estate agents quit this profession in even less than six months. When they get the license, they assume buyers / sellers / renters are going to come to them, and they will make tons of money in a very little time. And with this dream they just sit and wait, and waste their valuable time. So, why they are not getting any business?
Well before I explain this, let me ask you one more thing. If a person gets a cab license and a cab and then parks the cab in front of his/her house, assuming that people are going to come and ask for a ride then, I don’t think I need to tell you that what’s going to happen, because, you already know what is going to happen, right? So, it’s the same thing here in the real estate profession. Agents and brokers have to reach out to the prospective buyers / sellers / renters etc. because they are not going to come by themselves unless otherwise your business is very well established, or you are the luckiest person in this world!
In order to reach these prospects, there are multiple ways such as calling, mailing, putting ads in newspapers/TV/radio, using social media, etc. Some tools are expensive and some are affordable. If you are well established and making a good amount of money already then, you can use any and all the techniques / tools out there but, if you are new to the business and don’t have enough money then you have to use some affordable techniques first. But you must use some techniques to reach out to these prospects. Otherwise, this profession may not work for you.
A website is one of the most effective tools out there to reach out to these prospects. Well, here I want to add one more thing because I have seen some people do have websites but, there are no listings or a way to search for properties on their websites. And that’s something if you have it or don’t have it, is not going to make any difference at all. So, if you ever get a website, especially a real estate website then you must have up to date listings data to show these prospects out there. In other words, a real estate website must show all up to date sales and rental listings in the market.
For the beginners and for an agent who cannot afford too expensive website in the beginning, for them, I will suggest NOT to have third party IDX because, that's the most expensive part of website. Just use your free MLS IDX and have someone add it into your site.
There are many web design companies out there, most of them are way too expensive but, there are some companies out there who are very affordable and provide a beautiful yet full functional website at a very affordable rate.
